Wizkid to headline Detty December Fest
Afrobeats star Wizkid is set to headline the opening concert of the 2026 Detty December Fest in Lagos, marking his return to the city where his music career began.
Afrobeats star, Wizkid, is set to headline the opening concert of the 2026 Detty December Fest scheduled to hold in Lagos from Dec. 18 to Dec. 30. The organisers, Livespot360, disclosed in a statement on Friday in Lagos that Wizkid would perform at the grand opening concert which will feature an expanded two-stage entertainment experience.
According to the organisers, Wizkid’s performance at the opening concert will mark his return to the city where his music career began and reinforce the position of Lagos as a major destination for global entertainment during the December festive season. Livespot360 added that additional artistes for the concert would be announced in the coming months.
The organisers said festival goers would experience headline concerts, aerial shows, emerging talent showcases, food and lifestyle activations, DJ-led nights as well as family-friendly attractions. The organisers noted that Livespot had produced several major entertainment events across the continent, including bringing American rapper Cardi B to Nigeria and Ghana for her first performances in the countries.
The Detty December Fest is a testament to the growing power of Nigeria’s creative economy. The festival attracted more than 40,000 people in its debut edition, and this year’s event promises to be even bigger. Wizkid’s headline slot is a homecoming and a celebration of the global influence of Afrobeats. The festival will further position Lagos as a destination for music, culture and tourism.
This echoes the 2023 Detty December events, which also saw Lagos become a hub for global entertainment. The mechanism then was different, but the result was the same: Lagos as the centre of African entertainment.
The winners: Wizkid, who will headline a major event; and Lagos, which gains visibility as a global entertainment destination. The losers: the artists who are not on the bill; and the Nigerian government, which must invest in the creative economy.
Bottom Line: Wizkid will headline Detty December Fest. Lagos is becoming a global entertainment hub. The question is whether the government will support the creative economy.
