Jordan Nyesom-Wike is in court. The FCT Minister's son, Nyesom Wike, faces a $2.1 million land-deal dispute. The claimants, Safwan Garba GY and GY Global Oil and Gas Nigeria Limited, say they paid him for a joint venture in Guzape and Katampe. He denies it. He says his signature was forged and he was abroad when the cash was allegedly handed over. The civil suit is adjourned to December 1, 2 and 14.
Land fraud is a recurring problem in the FCT. The city’s rapid expansion has created a market for fake allocations and forged documents. In 2023, the EFCC arraigned several suspects in Abuja for land scams. In 2024, the FCT Administration warned against dealing with unauthorised agents. The Wike case is different because of the name involved. The Minister’s son is accused of using his father’s name to secure a deal. The Minister has not been accused of wrongdoing. But the case has political implications. The 2027 election is approaching. The FCT Minister is a key ally of President Bola Tinubu. Any scandal involving his family attracts attention.
The claimants say they met Jordan in London. They developed a rapport. He promised to facilitate 30 hectares in Katmpe and 30 in Guzape. They say he demanded $2 million for his father and $100,000 for himself. They allege they paid the cash at a house in Gwarinpa on 26 September 2025, with two witnesses present. They say Jordan called his father in their presence to bolster the claim. They say he promised delivery within a month. He then became incommunicado. Their lawyer, Ibrahim Waru, says the EFCC acknowledged a petition but has not acted on it.
Jordan denies everything. He told Justice Silvanus Oriji that he was not in the country on the alleged date. He produced his American passport to prove he travelled out of Nigeria. He says his signature on the contract documents was forged. He says he does not know Safwan Garba.
The case has procedural complications. The claimants have asked the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court to transfer the suit from Justice Oriji. They cite an alleged close geographical and family affinity between the judge and the defendant. They say the request is not an allegation of actual bias but a precaution to preserve public confidence. The EFCC petition, dated 11 December 2025, alleges fraud, obtaining by false pretence, criminal misappropriation and conversion. The EFCC chairman received a reminder on 5 October 2026. The commission has not announced any charges.
Winners: The claimants, who gain a platform. Their lawyers, who gain visibility. Bloggers, who gain content. The EFCC, if it finally investigates. The court, which asserts process. Losers: Jordan Wike, whose reputation faces damage. The FCT Minister, whose name is dragged into the dispute. The EFCC, whose delay is questioned. The judiciary, whose impartiality is challenged. The claimants, if they cannot prove their case. The public, which must wait for a resolution.
Bottom Line: A minister’s son faces a serious fraud allegation. He denies it. He has a passport. He says the signature is forged. The claimants have witnesses and a petition. The EFCC has not acted. The court will decide. The politics will not wait.
