Interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen has named a 28-player squad for Nigeria’s Olympic qualifying fixtures against Comoros. Captain Rasheedat Ajibade, goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, and forward Asisat Oshoala headline the list. Defender Ashleigh Plumptre returns after missing the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations due to injury. The squad also includes youngsters Christiana Uzoma, Farida Abdulwahab, Tumininu Adeshina, Favour Nkwocha, Shakirat Moshood, Oluwakemi Adegbuyi, and Janet Akekoromowei.
The Super Falcons are Africa’s most successful women’s team. They have won the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations a record 11 times. They have qualified for every Olympic Games since 2000, except 2012. The 2028 Los Angeles Olympics are the target. The qualifying campaign is long. Comoros are the first hurdle. The return of Plumptre strengthens the defence. Her experience is valuable.
The players report to the AM2PM Hotel in Ijebu-Ode on Saturday, 3 October. Comoros will host the first leg on 9 October. Nigeria will host the return leg on 13 October. Both matches will be played at the Remo Stars Sports Stadium in Ikenne-Remo. Comoros does not have a CAF-approved venue for international games. Nigeria will therefore host both fixtures.
Eguavoen has blended experience with youth. The squad includes established internationals like Michelle Alozie, Christy Ucheibe, Jennifer Echegini, and Toni Payne. The forward line features Ajibade, Oshoala, Gift Monday, and Uchenna Kanu. The goalkeeping department has Nnadozie, Comfort Erhabor, and Christiana Uzoma.
Winners: Plumptre, who returns. The young players, who gain exposure. Eguavoen, who has options. The Super Falcons, who gain depth. Losers: Players omitted. Comoros, who face a full-strength Nigeria. No serious losers.
Bottom Line: Nigeria name a strong squad for Comoros. Plumptre returns. The young players get a chance. The Olympic qualifying campaign begins.
