The Nigeria Democratic Congress has unveiled its national secretariat in Abuja. The party also inaugurated its National Presidential Campaign Council. The events followed the party’s Third National Executive Committee meeting. The secretariat is at 393 Etang Obuli Crescent, Jabi, Abuja. The party presented certificates of return to its candidates.
The NDC is a new party. INEC recognised it in February 2026. It absorbed Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso after they left the Labour Party and the NNPP. It has positioned itself as the main opposition vehicle for 2027. In September, it held a consensus conference with Atiku Abubakar. In October, it faced attacks in Enugu and Edo. The new secretariat gives it a permanent base. The campaign council provides structure.
Peter Obi, the presidential candidate, promised to tackle corruption, insecurity, unemployment and poverty. “The purpose of governance is to solve problems, not to blame people,” he said. “Kwankwaso and I will not blame anybody. We will create that new Nigeria that is possible.” He questioned the implementation of the 2023, 2024 and 2025 budgets. He alleged that capital expenditure remained below 20% and that contractors faced payment difficulties. He challenged the government to account for revenue, loans and projects.
On security, Obi promised a responsive approach. He said the president must visit communities affected by emergencies. He pledged an emergency in agriculture, particularly in northern Nigeria. He said restoring security would let farmers return to their farms. He identified education, healthcare and electricity as priorities. “The revolution that is coming is a revolution of the ballot,” he said.
The party’s National Chairman, Moses Cleopas, said candidates must remain accountable. He warned that nominations are a responsibility, not an entitlement. The National Leader, Seriake Dickson, described the secretariat as the party’s “Noah’s Ark.” Dickson will chair the campaign council. Obi will serve as co-chairman. Cleopas will be vice-chairman. Kwankwaso will be co-vice-chairman. Babachir Lawal will serve as a member.
Winners: Peter Obi, who gains a platform. The NDC, which gains structure. Candidates, who gain certificates. Seriake Dickson, who gains a leadership role. Losers: The APC, if the NDC unites the opposition. Other opposition parties, which face competition. Critics who see the NDC as inexperienced. No serious losers if the campaign delivers.
Bottom Line: The NDC has a secretariat and a campaign council. Obi promised accountability and security. The party is ready. The resources are thin. The enthusiasm is high. The 2027 race is underway.
