The simulator is a significant investment in Nigeria’s healthcare training infrastructure. Eye surgeons will be able to practice complex procedures without risking patient safety, improving their skills and reducing the risk of complications. The simulator will also help to address the shortage of trained eye surgeons in Nigeria.
This echoes the 2020 introduction of surgical simulators in other Nigerian hospitals, which also sought to improve training. The mechanism then was different, but the result was the same: a focus on improving medical training.
