More than 40 suspected bandits were reportedly killed after local hunters and the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC) repelled a large-scale attack on Guga village in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State. According to counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama, over 200 heavily armed bandits launched the attack on Sunday evening in what was described as a coordinated reprisal operation. The attackers were allegedly led by notorious bandit leader Idi Abasu Aiki and fighters linked to the Ado Aleru criminal network.
Acting on intelligence, local security volunteers mounted a coordinated defence, triggering a fierce gun battle that forced the attackers to retreat. Reports said at least eight senior bandit commanders were among those killed, while Aiki reportedly sustained serious gunshot wounds. However, the Katsina State Government confirmed that five local hunters also lost their lives during the operation after being caught away from the frontline. Security forces have since intensified clearance and surveillance operations in the area.
The successful repulsion of the attack is a significant achievement for the local security volunteers.
