Gunmen disrupted a Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) meeting in Enugu on Saturday. The attack occurred around 3:40 pm at Obuoffia Ward in Nkanu West Local Government Area. The party said eight members sustained gunshot injuries. They are Onovo Donald Ekene, Ngene Godwin Madueke, Ogbodo Gloria, Onovo Victor, Maduabuchi Ugwu, Nnaemeka Nelson, Chinonso Nwagbara and Obinna Daniel Owo. Canopies, chairs and party materials were destroyed.
Nkanu West has a history of political violence. In 2022, gunmen killed three policemen at Agbani Roundabout. In 2024, four policemen died in an attack at Ozalla. The area has also seen attacks on polling units during local elections. The pattern is not new. What changes is the target.
