The Federal Government has filed fresh charges against Adeniyi Adeyemi. He is the alleged Director-General of the non-existent Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council. The new charges were filed at the FCT High Court. The counsel to the Attorney-General of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, disclosed this on Monday. He told Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja that the development followed a new case filed at the FCT High Court.
Adeyemi allegedly operated a fictitious government agency since 2024. Prosecutors say he forged an appointment letter purportedly issued by President Bola Tinubu. He used official-looking documents to obtain office space at the federal secretariat. He requested staff deployments. He secured a budget allocation of about $1 million for 2026. The agency attempted to open accounts with the Central Bank of Nigeria. President Tinubu directed the ICPC to investigate. The commission concluded its investigation.
Oyedepo applied to strike out the Federal High Court charge. He said the AGF reviewed the case file and found loopholes. He said the forged documents could be prosecuted at the FCT High Court, not the Federal High Court. A new charge had been filed. Adeyemi would be arraigned afresh. The defence lawyer, Ibrahim Angulu, did not oppose the request. Justice Umar struck out the case.
The original charge was filed on 27 November 2025 by a police prosecutor. It accused Adeyemi and two unnamed co-defendants of forgery and impersonation. Witnesses listed include Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, civil servants and a hotel owner. Documentary evidence includes the alleged fake presidential appointment letter dated 8 March 2024 and requests to open CBN accounts.
Adeyemi was remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre. He pleaded not guilty. He insists the agency is legitimate.
Winners: The prosecution, which corrects procedural errors. The AGF, which shows diligence. The court, which follows process. Losers: Adeyemi, who faces fresh arraignment. His co-defendants, whose whereabouts are unknown. The Federal High Court, whose charge was struck out. Taxpayers, if the case drags.
Bottom Line: The FG filed fresh charges. The old case was struck out. Adeyemi faces arraignment again. He says the agency is real. Prosecutors say it is fake. The case continues. Justice delayed is justice denied.
