Delta allocates $100m to de-risk private investment
Governor Oborevwori has announced a $100 million state allocation dedicated to de-risking private capital investments, a move commended by VP Shettima at the Delta Economic and Investment Summit.
Speaking at the Delta Economic and Investment Summit in Asaba, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori announced a $100 million state allocation dedicated to de-risking private capital investments. Vice President Kashim Shettima commended the initiative, reiterating that Nigeria’s macro-reforms are steering the economy toward long-term stability.
The allocation is a significant step towards attracting private investment to Delta State. The de-risking mechanism will reduce the perceived risk of investing in the state, making it more attractive to investors. The focus on private capital is a recognition that the government cannot finance development alone.
This echoes the 2020 investment promotion initiatives in other states, which also sought to attract private capital. The mechanism then was different, but the result was the same: a focus on private sector-led development.
The winners: investors, who will benefit from reduced risk; and Delta State, which gains investment. The losers: the Nigerian government, which must ensure that the allocation is used effectively; and the Nigerian public, who must wait for the benefits.
Bottom Line: Delta State has set aside $100 million to de-risk private investment. The goal is to attract capital. The question is whether the initiative will deliver results or remain on paper.
