Davido leads AFRIMMA 2026 nominations with five nods

Afrobeats superstar Davido has emerged as the most-nominated artist for the 2026 African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA), securing five major nominations, including Artist of the Year and Album of the Year. The official nominee list, unveiled on July 15, also highlighted Burna Boy, Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz, and Ghana’s Black Sherif with four nods each. South African sensation Tyla led the female category with three nominations, followed closely by Nigeria’s Tems with two.
The nominations underscore the continued global dominance and massive appeal of Nigerian musical talent. Afrobeats has become a global phenomenon, with Nigerian artists leading the charge. The AFRIMMA nominations are a reflection of that success.
This echoes the 2020s Afrobeats boom, which has seen Nigerian artists topping global charts and selling out arenas worldwide. The mechanism then was different, but the result was the same: Nigerian music became a global force.
The winners: Davido, Burna Boy, Tems and the other nominees; and Nigerian music, which continues to dominate. The losers: the artists who were not nominated, and the Nigerian government, which has not invested enough in the music industry.
Bottom Line: Davido leads the AFRIMMA nominations. Nigerian music is dominating Africa. The question is whether the industry will build the infrastructure to sustain the growth.
