Dangote Transport has stepped up its road safety efforts with the deployment of a real-time Driver Monitoring Control Room to monitor truck drivers and respond promptly to unsafe behaviour while they are on the road. The facility, located at the company’s operational base in Ibese, Ogun State, uses multi-camera AI telematics to monitor drivers across the national fleet.
The company has separately disclosed that its wider transport operations now include AI-driven solutions, automated inspection systems and enhanced GPS and telematics for real-time monitoring of driver behaviour. Between the first quarters of 2025 and 2026, Dangote Cement’s transport operations have significantly reduced crashes, fatalities and injuries. The company has also sanctioned over 250 drivers for safety violations. The initiative is part of Dangote’s broader commitment to safety and operational efficiency.
The winners: Dangote Transport, which is setting a new standard for road safety; and Nigerian road users, who will benefit from safer roads. The losers: reckless drivers, who face increased scrutiny; and the Nigerian government, which must encourage similar initiatives across the transport sector.
Bottom Line: Dangote is using AI to monitor its drivers. Road safety is being taken seriously. The question is whether other transport companies will follow this example.
