The Nigeria Customs Service, Apapa Area Command, has recorded another historic revenue milestone, generating ₦28.10 billion within 24 hours on Tuesday, 18 August 2026, the highest single-day revenue collection ever recorded by the Command. The feat surpasses the previous daily record of ₦20.1 billion collected in September 2025.
The new record comes barely weeks after the command achieved an unprecedented ₦323 billion monthly revenue collection in July 2026, “further demonstrating the sustained impact of reforms, improved compliance, enhanced trade facilitation, intelligence-driven interventions and the increasing efficiency of digital customs processes”.
Customs Area Controller Emmanuel Oshoba emphasised that the achievement is not simply about figures but about the contribution of the NCS to the economic wellbeing of Nigerians. He noted that revenue generated forms part of government resources used to fund public priorities, including infrastructure, security, education and healthcare.
Oshoba dedicated the milestone to the Government and people of Nigeria and acknowledged the cooperation of compliant importers, exporters and licensed customs agents. He stressed that every compliant transaction contributes to national development and urged stakeholders to continue supporting legitimate trade.
The achievement is a testament to the effectiveness of the reforms and the professionalism of the command. The record also raises expectations for future performance, and the command must sustain the momentum while ensuring that trade facilitation is not compromised.
The winners: the Nigerian government, which gains revenue for public services; and compliant traders, who benefit from improved processes. The losers: smugglers and non-compliant traders, who face increased scrutiny; and the Nigerian public, who must trust that the revenue will be used wisely.
Bottom Line: Customs has set a new daily revenue record. ₦28.1 billion in a single day. The reforms are working. The question is whether the momentum can be sustained.
