The initiative aims to create a dedicated platform for child-centric cinematic stories, foster young creative talents, and encourage age-appropriate entertainment across Africa. Organisers highlighted that the festival will provide workshops, mentorship programmes and showcase opportunities for young actors and filmmakers to tell authentic African stories tailored for younger audiences.
The festival is a significant development for the Nigerian film industry. Nollywood has grown into one of the world’s largest film industries, but it has often been criticised for neglecting children’s content. The festival is an attempt to address that gap and create a new generation of filmmakers and actors.
This echoes the 2010s Nollywood expansion, which saw the industry grow rapidly but often overlooked children’s content. The mechanism then was different, but the result was the same: a recognition that the industry must cater to all audiences.
